This entry is mainly about some sketches I made for a potential customer. I want to give those of you who read my journal a chance to look at them and tell me what you think. They are all of the French style called a Bliaunt, a form-fitting dress from the 12th to early 13th century. Center front and back seams, gores inserted from the waist down for fullness, sides laced to allow adjusting the tightness of the torso.

Blue BliauntOn the right is the first possibility, shown in blue with red trim. The sleeves are close, but loose enough to allow a chemise to fit comfortably underneath. Fabrics under consideration are linen and tropical weight wool.

Red Short Sleeve BliauntOur second choice is a red dress with short sleeves. It is also a v-neck style, but the trim is only around the cuffs, allowing milady's fine chemise to be the star attraction at the neckline.

Green Bliaunt with Split SleevesThe third choice is shown in green with gold trim. It features a scooped neckline, front and back, which is fantastic for showing off one's new jewelry. It also has long loose sleeves, split to the elbow and lined with contrasting fabric.

Side and Back ViewsFinally, this sketch shows a back view of the green dress and a detail of the side spiral lacing proposed for all of the illustrated designs. The lacing will run from the armscye to the waistline on both sides of the dress.
